Details:
...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM AKST SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Very cold wind chills as low as -40F to -60F.

* WHERE...Kuskokwim Delta, and Western Capes.

* WHEN...Until 6 PM AKST Saturday.

* IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 55 below zero
could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 5 minutes.
Very cold temperatures can lead to hypothermia with prolonged
exposure.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Air temperatures will continue to remain
around -10 to -25 degrees along the coast and as low as -25 to -35
degrees inland. Winds as high as 30 mph inland and 40 mph along
the coast will bring widespread areas of frigid wind chills to
-50F or lower. Gusty winds may loft snow on the ground,
potentially reducing visibility to one-half mile or less at times.
Wind chills will improve by tomorrow, but another round of cold
temperatures and wind chills is expected early next week.

Information:
An extreme cold warning means that dangerously low temperatures are
expected for a prolonged period of time. Wear protective clothing
such as a hat, face mask, and heavy gloves or mittens if you have
plans to be outdoors. To prevent freezing and possible bursting of
outdoor water pipes they should be wrapped, drained, or allowed to
drip slowly. Those that have in-ground sprinkler systems should
drain them and cover above-ground pipes to protect them from
freezing.
