...COASTAL FLOOD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM EDT FRIDAY... ...BEACH HAZARDS STATEMENT REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 8 AM EDT THIS MORNING THROUGH THIS EVENING...

* WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Warning, up to 2 to 4 feet of
inundation above ground level expected in low-lying areas near
shorelines and tidal waterways. Up to 1 foot of inundation is
possible for sound-side flooding when winds become more
northerly late Thursday and Friday. For the Beach Hazards
Statements, dangerous rip currents, large breaking waves
expected, and strong longshore currents in the surf zone.

* WHERE...Ocracoke Island.

* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Warning, until 11 PM EDT Friday.
For the Beach Hazards Statement, until 8 PM EDT this evening.

* IMPACTS...Numerous roads may be closed. Portions of Highway 12
will be inundated. Low lying property including homes,
businesses, and some critical infrastructure will be
inundated. Rip currents can sweep even the best swimmers away
from shore into deeper water. Dangerous shore break can throw
a swimmer or surfer head first into the bottom causing neck
and back injuries. Strong longshore currents will create
dangerous swimming conditions.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The most likely time for strong rip
currents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide,
which will occur around 12:12 PM Thursday.

Information:

Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If
travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through
water of unknown depth.

Swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf
conditions.

* WHAT...Northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph.

* WHERE...East Carteret and Mainland Dare Counties, and Hatteras
Island, Northern Outer Banks, and Ocracoke Island. The strongest
winds are expected for areas adjacent to bodies of water.

* WHEN...Until 2 AM EDT Friday.

* IMPACTS...Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree
limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A strong coastal low will develop offshore
east of the Carolinas and move north towards the New England coast
by this weekend. A period of moderate to strong winds is expected
to impact portions of the coast Thursday. These strong winds may
last longer depending on the track of the low.

Information:

Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high
profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
