At 2 PM ChST, the center of Super Typhoon Sinlaku (04W) was located by PGUA radar near latitude 12.6N, longitude 148.2E. This was about 230 miles east-southeast of Guam. Storm motion was west-northwest, 300 degrees, at 8 mph. Storm intensity was 180 mph. .SITUATION OVERVIEW... Super Typhoon Sinlaku (04W) continues to move west-northwest toward the Marianas with a slight northwest turn expected. The outer rain bands of Sinlaku are beginning to rotate in over the islands, and continue to bring periods of heavy showers, thunderstorms, and strong winds for the far outer islands of northwest Chuuk. However, tropical storm winds of 39 mph or greater have moved away from Ulul. The most recent storm track produced by the Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) has shown a slight northward shift in the storm path during its passage toward the Marianas, still maintaining a track north of Rota and near or over Tinian and Saipan. Sinlaku is expected to gradually weaken the next few days, but still expected to cross the Marianas as a category 4 or 5 typhoon.
